The Old Ballyclarians Association Website
- Purposes and Conditions of Use -

1. By registering on the Old Ballyclarians Association (OBA) website, you agree to the purposes and conditions of use of this website. The purposes of this website are to allow past pupils and past/present staff, of Ballyclare High School to be informed about the Association, to allow OBA members (known in future as "members") to make available some information about themselves, and also allow members to make contact with other past pupils and past/present staff.

2. Past pupils and past/present staff are encouraged to become members of the Old Ballyclarians Association and so foster the growth of the Association and the friendship it offers. Currently the Association is offering life membership. Details of how to apply for that membership are provided on the website.

3. Past pupils and past/present staff are also encouraged to register on the website. In so registering, you give permission for the details you provide to be kept in an electronic format and to be available for the purposes of the website. Members who have registered on the website potentially have access to all the facilities currently available on the website. This includes the reading of notes, a facility to initiate contact by email, a message board, and a virtual reunion chatroom. Non-members who have registered on the website do not have access to all of the facilities on the website. The website makes provision for you both to register your details on the website, and to delete your registration. The OBA also reserves the right to delete any registration from the website if they consider that it abuses the purposes or conditions of use of the website.

4. When you register on the website you undertake to give information about yourself which is accurate and relevant. The notes area is provided for you to give some more detailed personal information about yourself, and is not to be used to make comments or provide information about anyone other than yourself. After you have registered, you will receive an email giving you an initial password allowing you to login. An email will also be sent to the webmaster so that all registrations can be inspected. The purpose of this is to take reasonable steps to ensure that the email address you have given during registration is controlled by you, and that your registration fulfills the purposes of the OBA website.

5. The email address you supply at registration will be used as your login name on the website. The OBA may use this address at times to send you information about the OBA and its activities, but it will not be passed on to third parties for use by others. The only exception to this is when you initiate contact with another registered user in a yeargroup listing. Your email address is then used to populate the 'email from' field.

6. The facility to initiate email contact is provided for members. The email address of the person you wish to contact is not visible to you on the website, but your email address will be available to them through the email that you send. This assures the other person a degree of privcacy, should they decide they do not wish to respond to your email. You must also realise that you will be traceable through your email address, should the recipient of the email feel threatened or harrased in any way.

7. The Virtual Reunion chatroom facility will be provided for members so that they may chat with one another, in line with the purposes of the OBA. The times of availability of this facility will be completely at the discretion of the OBA. If you use this facility, you must be careful that you do not denigrate, humiliate, or cause distress to any other person, or leave yourself open to any libel action by another person or body, because of the things that you say in the chat room. Remember, if you use the Virtual Reunion chatroom facility, you will be identifiable through your login details. The OBA cannot be held responsible for the things that are discussed within the chatroom or for comments made there about any person or any other body. Notwithstanding this, the OBA will endeavour to ensure that this facility is used responsibly, and reserve the right to disallow you access to the chatroom because of your abuse or misuse of this facility. To this end, the OBA reserves the right to monitor the Virtual Reunion chatroom as and when it wishes, and take appropriate action, when necessary, to promote the proper use of the chatroom. You are encouraged to avoid chat about anything which would be, or might appear to be, an abuse or misuse of the facility, and to identify to the webmaster, by email, anyone who is responsible for such abuse or misuse. Your access to this facility, and its continued availibilty on the website, depends upon your proper use of it.

8. The Message Board facility is provided for members so that they may seek help from and provide information for one another, in line with the purposes of the OBA. If you use this facility, you must be careful that you do not denigrate, humiliate, or cause distress to any other person, or leave yourself open to any libel action by another person or body, because of the things that you put on the Message Board. Remember, if you use the Message Board facility, you will be identifiable through your login details. The OBA cannot be held responsible for the messages that are displayed on the Message Board or for comments made there about any person or any other body. Notwithstanding this, the OBA will endeavour to ensure that this facility is used responsibly, and will remove messages considered inappropriate. You are asked to report to the webmaster, by email, any messages that you consider are an abuse of the facility, and appropriate action will be taken. Your access to this facility, and its continued availibilty on the website, depends upon your proper use of it.

9. The OBA cannot be responsible for the behaviour of those who register on the website. The OBA just provides a forum for past pupils to engage with one another. As stated above, we take reasonable steps to try and make sure that the purposes and conditions of use of the website are not abused, but ultimately, if you register on the website, you are responsible for the details you supply and for how you use the facilities. You should ensure that the information you provide, and your behaviour, does not break any relevant law, and is not, or does not appear to be offensive, threatening, obscene, or pornographic. If you see anything that appears to abuse the purposes or conditions of use of the website, please email the webmaster giving details of this.

10. As in all of life, people are not always who they say they are, and sometimes seek to deceive you with regard to their intentions. Consequently you should take care as you use the website and engage in contact with others. The OBA cannot be held responsible for the behaviour of those who register on the website or for the information they provide. Nor can the OBA be held responsible for any material found on any websites that the OBA website may provide a link to. You use the OBA website entirely at your own risk.

11. Copyright for the website, and the data provided by those who register, belong entirely to the Old Ballyclarians Association. We allow for some of the published material to be downloaded by you as an option to receiving it in printed form by post. The News Sheet and Sports Update fall within this category.

12. The OBA reserves the right to make changes to the conditions of use of the website as it deems necessary. Each time you login to the website you agree to be bound by the conditions of use as found at that time on the website. You are therefore encouraged to regularly read these conditions of use.

13. The Old Ballyclarians Association, its committee and its members will not be liable to you or any third party for any indirect or consequential loss or damage, or for any loss of data, profit, revenue or business, through your use of any part of the OBA website. Your use of the OBA website is entirely at your own risk.
